Simple Split ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our transaction splitting application.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use Simple Split, you may provide:

• Group names - Names you choose for your transaction groups
• Person names - Names of people in your groups (these can be nicknames or first names only)
• Transaction details - Descriptions, amounts, and how transactions are split
• Currency preferences - Your selected currency for each group
• Optional photos and receipts - Processed images you choose to attach to people, groups, transactions, or payments. The original image is processed on your device and is not uploaded.

Information Collected Automatically

We automatically collect certain information when you use the app:

• Usage data - Pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns
• Device information - Browser type, operating system, and screen size
• Anonymous identifiers - We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to associate your data with your session without requiring personal information

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and maintain the transaction splitting service
• Calculate balances and suggested settlements
• Sync your data across devices using your group link
• Improve our service based on usage patterns
• Ensure the security and integrity of the platform

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase and Google Cloud Platform infrastructure. Firebase provides:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
• Secure data storage with access controls
• Regular security updates and monitoring

Your transaction data and attached photos or receipts are associated with your group's unique identifier. Anyone with access to your group link can view them and modify that group's data. Photos and receipts may show personal information you chose to include.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Firebase - For data storage, real-time synchronization, and anonymous authentication
• Google Analytics - For understanding how users interact with our service (with IP anonymization enabled)

These services have their own privacy policies that govern their use of your data.

Data Retention

Your transaction group data is retained as long as the group exists. Since groups are accessed via unique links and don't require accounts, data persists until:

• You delete the group data manually
• The group becomes inactive for an extended period (we may clean up abandoned groups)

New group spaces keep their records and attached media indefinitely while the group exists; inactivity alone does not delete them. Removing a photo or receipt removes it from the app and schedules its stored object for deletion. Cloud Storage may retain a recoverable deleted copy for up to seven days under its current soft-delete setting.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access - View all data in your transaction groups via the app
• Modify - Edit or delete any transactions, people, or group information
• Delete - Remove your entire transaction group and its data

Children's Privacy

Simple Split is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
